The following summary outlines a description of the
power line, the right-of-way, and the findings
of environmental studies.
As shown on the map to the right, the Transmission
Facility is a linear project, essentially running in
an east-west direction for approximately 10.3 miles
within established right-of-way easements. The right-of-way
originates at the proposed Rector Road 230 kV Substation
(northwest of the intersection of Rector Road and Swernicki
Road in Martinsburg) and terminates at the proposed Chases
Lake Road Interconnect Facility (located east of Wetmore
Road). From the substation the right-of-way runs generally
east and south across Rector Road to West Road (County
Route 29). The route continues east, descending the
Tug Hill Plateau to State Route 26/12D in the Town of
Martinsburg. The route then continues east
and then heads south to State Highway 12 north of Bush
Road in East Martinsburg. Beyond State Highway 12, the
right-of-way heads northeasterly across the Black River
to Pine Grove Road. Finally the route continues across
Wetmore Road to the intersection with the existing NYPA
Marcy-Massena transmission right-of-way. The
Chases Lake Road Interconnection Station, where the
Maple Ridge Power Line interconnects with the Niagara
Mohawk 230kV Adirondack Line, is located on a parcel
in Watson just west of the NYPA 765kV transmission line.
NYSERDA
STUDY:
THE
EFFECTS OF INTEGRATING WIND POWER ON TRANSMISSION SYSTEM
PLANNING,
RELIABILITY, AND OPERATIONS
From
the Introduction: In response to emerging market conditions,
and in recognition of the unique operating characteristics
of wind generation, the New York State System Operator
(NYISO) and New York State Energy Research and Development
Authority (NYSERDA) commissioned a joint study to produce
empirical information that will assist the NYISO in
evaluating the reliability implications of increased
wind generation.
The results of the Preliminary Overall Reliability Assessment
are included in the report.
